Pre-Assembly Checklist for Control Boards

The preparation and inspection process prior to the assembly of control boards is a critical step to ensure product quality and production efficiency. A thorough and comprehensive inspection procedure can help identify potential issues, avoiding mistakes and delays during production. This article will detail the essential checks required before the assembly of control boards, providing strong assurance for manufacturing high-quality control boards.

The Necessity of PCB Testing
Pre-Assembly Checklist for Control Boards

To assist customers in performing checks before sending production files, ensuring a smooth production process and saving time, we recommend providing a detailed and clear checklist and guidelines. Below is a suggested guide for customers to follow before sending their production files:

1 File Completeness

File Types: Ensure that all necessary files are included, such as Gerber files, BOM lists, assembly drawings, and testing requirements.
File Formats: Confirm that all file formats meet the standard requirements (e.g., Gerber files should be in RS-274X format).

2 Gerber File Hierarchy

Design

Layer Completeness: Check that all layers in the Gerber files are complete, including top, bottom, inner layers, power layers, ground layers, silkscreen layers, and solder mask layers.
File Names and Content: Ensure that each Gerber file’s name and content are consistent and clearly labeled for each layer.
Alignment and Registration: Verify that the alignment and registration of all layers are correct.

3 Drill Files

Drill Maps: Confirm that the drill maps and NC Drill lists are included, with correct hole positions and sizes.
Hole Diameters and Tolerances: Check that hole diameters and tolerances meet the design requirements.

4 Bill of Materials (BOM)

Component Numbers and Descriptions: Verify that the BOM list includes correct component numbers, descriptions, quantities, and reference designators (Ref Des).
Suppliers and Part Numbers: Ensure that the BOM list includes clear and accurate information for all components’ suppliers and part numbers.

5 Assembly Drawings

Component Layout: Check that all components in the assembly drawing are correctly placed and correspond to the BOM list.
Reference Designators and Polarity: Ensure that the reference designators and polarity markers are clear and accurate in the assembly drawings.

6 Design Rule Check (DRC)

Spacing and Width: Confirm that all trace spacings and widths comply with design rules.
Vias and Pads: Verify that the sizes, spacing, and quantities of vias and pads meet the design requirements.

7 Electrical Test Files

Test Points: Ensure that the test points are correctly positioned and in the correct quantity, aligning with testing requirements.
Test Specifications: Provide detailed test specifications and procedures to ensure the products meet quality standards after production.

8 Special Requirements

Manufacturing Requirements: Clearly specify any special manufacturing requirements, such as unique materials, surface treatments, shielding layers, etc.
Assembly Requirements: Include any special assembly requirements, such as specific soldering techniques or unique installation sequences.

9 Additional Recommendations

Multiple Checks: Perform at least two thorough reviews before submission to ensure all files and data are accurate.
Internal Review: It’s advisable to conduct cross-checks by different team members to catch potential oversights.
Communication Confirmation: Before submitting the files, communicate with our engineering team to ensure all requirements and files are clearly understood.

By following the above inspection steps, you can significantly reduce potential issues during the assembly process, thereby improving overall production efficiency.
